How to Monitor FPS and Temperature Values on Android Phone

A lot of phones come with a high refresh rate display. But not all apps run in 90Hz or 120Hz, even when you have the option enabled. If you are curious about your phone’s refresh rate or want to track your refresh rate in real-time, you can see the current refresh rate of your screen.

To use this feature, you will need an Android 11 (or newer) smartphone and you can enable it by following the steps below:

Enable developer options and go to settings, and select Additional Settings. The Developer Options can be accessed from this page, tap on it.

Scroll down till you find a toggle for “Show Refresh Rate”, tap on it to enable the option.

Show Refresh Rate

The overlay is placed in the top left corner of the screen and refresh rate will be displayed in every app that you open.

If you want to monitor the device’s temperature and memory usage along with the frame rate, there is another option that you can enable.

Enabling Frame Rate Monitor Tool

Frame Rate Monitor tool, as the name suggests it allows us to see the FPS of the device when we use applications. FPS is frames per second which means the number of frames that appear on the screen while playing any visual content or gaming in a full second. The higher the amount of Frame Rate, the smoother the experience for the user. Low frame rates can cause the content to lag or stutter. Every user wants to extract the maximum capability out of a smartphone in terms of processing speed, camera, battery backup, display, and much more. With the Frame Rate Monitor tool, users can measure the frames that appear on their device in one second, while playing videos and games. Frame Rate Monitor feature is only available to Xiaomi phones with MIUI 12 update (or newer).

Go to developer options, find the Power Monitor section and Tap Power monitor. Then tap the Start button under the frame rate monitor tools.

Enabling Frame Rate Monitor Tool

A widget will appear in the top left corner, that displays the screen resolution, refresh rate, temperature and memory usage. This is a floating panel, so you can move the widget to any location on the screen.

Also the widget is useful to find if your device is heating up while playing games. You can close the widget by tapping on it, and then on the X that appears.
